Spray foam insulation coats the sloped ceiling between wooden rafters in an attic with a small window and exposed framing.

We insulate and air seal attics, walls and crawl spaces for Watsonville homeowners, people who just bought an older place, and the property managers who look after rentals.

Watsonville runs from the Victorian streets downtown, where Watsonville Plaza fills up for celebrations and festivals, out to neighborhoods where the city trails head into an 800-acre freshwater wetland. The Bockius-Orr House, an Italianate Victorian downtown, is the kind of older home a lot of people picture when they think of this city. Older houses often went up with little in the walls and not much in the attic, so they're a big part of what we see.

The city rates termite damage risk here as very high, so when I'm under a house for cold floors, I check the wood as closely as the insulation. Anyone who pulls a building permit from the city's Building & Safety Division has to hold a current California contractor's license, and a contractor with employees has to supply its workers' comp details, so ask anyone you're considering for both. We're based here in Watsonville, so these are the houses we know.

Insulation contractor services in Watsonville, CA

M&R Watsonville Spray Foam Insulation is an insulation contractor in Watsonville, CA, with 16 kinds of work on the list, from attics and walls to crawl spaces. Most calls start with a drafty room, a hot upstairs or a power bill that keeps climbing. The price moves with what's already up there, how many inches and in what shape, whether old material has to come out, how much sealing the space needs and whether foam or loose fill makes more sense. The schedule turns on removal, any permit and, with foam, the wait before you can come back inside. Your own figure comes from the estimate I write after seeing the space.

  • Spray foam insulation

We spray foam into attics, walls and crawl spaces so it seals air and insulates at once, which pays off when ducts run overhead.

  • Attic insulation

Hot upstairs? We check what's in your attic, fix what's wrong, then bring it to an even depth right out to the edges.

  • Blown-in insulation

Blown-in insulation is loose fill blown through a hose, and it's a quick way to top up an attic that's gone thin.

  • Home insulation

Not sure where your house is losing heat? We look at the attic, walls and floors and tell you which one to do first.

  • Insulation removal

Insulation that's wet or full of droppings comes out before anything new goes in. We bag it, vacuum the attic and haul it off.

  • Crawl space insulation

Cold floors in winter usually trace back to the crawl space, so we check the wood underneath, then insulate between the floor joists.

  • Wall insulation

Who needs it? Older houses with empty walls, which we fill through small holes and patch, and open walls during a remodel.

  • Air sealing services

Air sealing is closing the gaps where air leaks through a house, around outlets, plumbing and door frames, so insulation isn't fighting a draft.

  • Basement insulation

We insulate basement walls and the framing along the top of them, where a lot of cold air usually slips in.

  • Closed-cell foam insulation

Closed-cell foam is dense foam that blocks moisture as well as air, which makes it a good fit for crawl spaces and basement walls.

  • Open-cell foam insulation

Open-cell foam is softer and lighter, and it costs less than closed-cell. It suits the underside of a roof and walls you want quieter.

  • Commercial insulation

Property managers and building owners call us for offices, shops and rentals, and we plan the work around tenants and open hours.

  • Crawl space vapor barrier

We lay a heavy plastic sheet over the dirt under your house, taped at the seams, so less ground moisture reaches the floor framing.

  • Vapor barrier installation

Where does a vapor barrier go? We put it where moisture would otherwise soak into the insulation, in walls, ceilings or under floors.

  • Attic air sealing

Before any insulation goes in, we seal around can lights, pipes, wires and the hatch, because that's where warm air leaks into the attic.

  • Retrofit insulation

Bought an older place? Retrofit is adding insulation to a finished house, working around the wiring, framing and walls you already have.

Why people around Watsonville call us

  • Repairs and sealing come before insulation

In a kitchen you set up your station before you cook, and an attic's the same. We sort out wet or dirty insulation, clear the eave vents and seal the leaks first, then insulate, because that order gets you the most out of the job and you're not paying to bury a problem.

  • I see your house in person and give you a straight answer

I come out myself, look at the space and tell you plainly what's worth doing now and what can wait. If a job isn't ready or isn't worth the money, I'll say so before you spend anything.

  • Covered, contained and cleaned up before we go

We cover the path from your door to the hatch, keep the dust contained and clean up before we leave. I check the work before we call it done.

About M&R Watsonville Spray Foam Insulation

I cooked in restaurant kitchens for years before I learned insulation crawling attics and crawl spaces on someone else's crew, and I started M&R Watsonville Spray Foam Insulation here in Watsonville in 2017. We're fully licensed and insured, and we handle 16 kinds of insulation work across 12 cities with their own page on this site. Most of our calls come from people with a drafty or stuffy house, new owners of older places and some property managers. You can read more about how we got started.

Tell us what's going on in your attic or crawl space

We'll get back to you to set a time, and then I come out and look at the space myself before anything gets priced. Nothing goes ahead until you say so.

Getting your house ready for install day

Clear a path to the attic hatch or crawl space door and move whatever's stored around it, because our crew goes in and out that way all day. Anything sitting up in the attic has to come down before we start, since boxes on the old insulation hide what's under them and get in the way of the new.

What happens after you call

  1. Call or message

Call (831) 666-1048 or send a message through the form, and we get back to you within one business day to set up a visit.

  2. I look in person

I come out myself and look at the attic, crawl space or walls, and I point out anything that has to be dealt with first.

  3. Written estimate

I write the estimate from what I actually saw up there. It's free, and there's no obligation to go ahead.

  4. Prep and install

Once you say go, we handle the permit side if the job has one, prep the space, and our crew does the install.

  5. Check and clean up

I check the work before we call it done, and we clean up before we leave. Afterward, keep boxes off the new insulation so it stays at full depth.

Insulation questions from Watsonville homeowners

How much does it cost to insulate an attic in Watsonville?

There's no honest number until I've looked, because the price depends on what's already up there and what has to happen before new insulation goes in. A thin layer in good shape just gets topped up, while soaked or dirty material has to come out first, and that costs more. I put the figure in writing after the visit.

Do I need to remove old insulation before adding new insulation?

Only if it's soaked or full of droppings, because new material laid on top just buries the problem. Dry, clean insulation can usually stay, and we add to it. I'll show you what you've got at the visit.

Can blown-in insulation block the vents in my attic?

It can if it gets packed into the eaves, and a buried eave vent stops the attic from breathing, so moisture ends up in the framing. We set baffles, small chutes that hold the insulation back, at the eaves so air keeps moving. We also keep the depth even out to the edges, where a lot of attics run thin.

Is spray foam better than blown-in insulation for my attic?

Usually not for an ordinary attic, because sealing the gaps and topping up loose fill gets you most of the benefit for less. Foam costs more, but it seals air while it insulates, so it's my pick when the ductwork runs through the attic.

Why are my floors cold over the crawl space?

Usually because there's little or no insulation under the floor and damp air coming up off the dirt. We lay a vapor barrier over the ground first, then insulate between the floor joists, so the new insulation isn't soaking up ground moisture.

How long will the insulation crew be in my attic?

It depends on the size of the space, whether old material comes out first and how much sealing it needs, and I'll give you a realistic idea once I've seen it. If the job needs a permit, the city can sometimes issue it on the first visit for a simple job, but most need more time for review.

Do we have to leave the house during spray foam insulation?

Yes, for spray foam you, the kids and the pets stay out until the re-entry time is up, the point when it's safe to come back inside. We give you that wait before the day so you can plan around it. Blown-in and air sealing jobs usually don't need you to leave.

Does insulation work need a permit in Watsonville?

Some jobs can, and the city's building division is the office that issues building permits and the one to ask about your address. If work starts without a required permit, an inspector stops it right away, the fees can run up to double, and covered work gets opened back up for inspection. That's why we check before we start.
